When?

It's the end of March, time is moving - the sands are running -the days are passing - the weather is getting nicer and nicer. When shall I plant Susan's lilies?

Shall/should/must/need/want/desire ...

Their name, "Fragrant Lilies" above all else evokes desire, so lush voluptuous full curving and in pinks.

Yet sister Spring is known to be fickle, warm one weekend and too cold the next for any recent planting.

The day after tomorrow will see 76 degrees -- do I dare to plant a lily bulb?

Susan's Gift of Fragrant Lily Bulbs

Susan took me out to brunch at Boulder's Dushanbe Tea House in celebration of my birthday.

It was truly a feast fit for a Scorpio: whetted with hibiscus tea mimosas (which her inner hippie called "deep") I opened Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat Pray Love" which I found intriguingly fun and worthy to read and a box of "3 Fragrant Lilies/Dutch Bulbs -- Best of the best Mixture."

Perfect! I had just begun the process of moving from Boulder back to Washington DC after 13 years away, the book and bulbs gifted to seed my unexpected delight in old spaces, new times.

The bulbs of course would be mine to enjoy the owning, the planting-of and caring-for; equally mine to share the delight of watching them grow into their "flowering height 32-44' " of pinks and white, discerning the mystery of their perfume as we all walk on by, on other business.

So, this BLOG is my grateful gift-back to Susan of the life cycle of her seeding-gift to me, in all its flowering multi-wonderfulness. I expect it will cover a lot more territory beyond the recommended "4 bulbs per square foot."

Thank you!
